I would be more interested in decorating magazines if and only if they showed homes in the state in which the dwellers actually reside in. In situ, as it were.

Instead, most magazines strip all the items in a room (photos, kids art, junk mail) that, to me, defines one home just as strongly as the designer furniture (or lack thereof).

Only one magazine that I'm familiar with came close to giving that experience: Nest Magazine, which is sadly defunct. I only coughed up its $17.50 issue price once. I could try to collect the back issues on ebay but I'm saving up to buy a painting for our living room.
