Atul Gawande's article The Checklist ("If something so simple can transform intensive care, what else can it do?") which can be found in the December 10, 2007 issue of The New Yorker is just an absolutely mind-bending article on both the state of modern medicine and organizational change.

If I am able to catch up on my reading over the Yule-tide break (my foil is a toddler that will only nap at daycare), I am hoping to read Gawande's other pieces that are available online (another recommendation: The Score ("How childbirth went industrial")) and finish up another piece about modern medicine and organizational change called Escape Fire: Lessons For the Future of Health Care (pdf).
