Something strange is happening to Detroit. It's both something sad beautiful and in the June July issue of Harper's it is captured wonderfully in the article Detroit arcadia by Rebecca Solnit.
Detroit is our future.

As a Detroiter by birth, that article made me sad, sad, sad. I can't share the author's optimism about gardens in run-down lots. Detroit was once a great industrial city, and it is now a crap hole.
