"it's a myth that the introduction of daylight time in the United States was motivated by farmers, says Michael Downing, author of Spring Forward: The Annual Madness of Daylight Saving Time. It fact, he says, the change was championed by business, led by metropolitan department stores. 'It was all about leisure shopping.
