Something disturbing happened to me at work today. I was sitting at my desk, hacking away at some configuration files. I was typing on my keyboard. I was mousing. I was generally staring intently at the screen before me while my thoughts and fingers flurried. I stopped only occasionally to look up a password or to refer to the manual.

But then my left index finger gave a slight twitch of pain. I stopped looking at the screen and looked at my finger and in doing so, noticed that the top of my mouse and many of the keys of my keyboard had little smears of blood. Evidently, it took a while for me to noticed that I had gotten a paper cut.
